Health and Wellness at SRB

St. Roberts follows laws and guidelines set forth by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. The State of Nebraska has set forth requirements for physical examinations, visual evaluations, and immunizations for all students.

SRB adheres to the Archdiocese of Omaha’s rules regarding immunizations. Immunization refusal for medical reasons will be accepted if signed by an MD, NP, or PA. Refusal of immunizations for religious reasons will not be accepted if the family is registered as Roman Catholic. Students from other faith backgrounds will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis if a religious exemption is filed.

Health Requirements for St. Roberts School

St. Roberts requires parents/guardians to update the school annually with information related to their child’s health. This is done via the “HEALTH UPDATE FORM” that is available in FACTS or in the important documents section of this website. This is a yearly requirement for ALL STUDENTS regardless of grade.  Additional updates will be required throughout the school year if your child has a significant change in health.

Medications Administered at School

Medications administered at school require a parent’s signature when the medication is brought to the office. St. Roberts does not provide any medications for students.

Health Screenings

General health screenings will be conducted yearly, in the fall, for students all students except K and 7 (they are screened at school physicals).  Parents will be notified in advance of the scheduled date of these screenings.

Wellness Policy

Per the Nebraska Department of Education, a local school wellness policy is a written document that guides a local educational agency’s (LEA) or school district’s efforts to establish a school environment that promotes students’ health, well-being, and ability to learn.

The wellness policy requirement was established by the Child Nutrition and Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Reauthorization Act of 2004 and further strengthened by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA). It requires each LEA participating in the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program to develop a wellness policy. The final rule expands the requirements to strengthen policies and increase transparency. The responsibility for developing, implementing, and evaluating a wellness policy is placed at the local level, so the unique needs of each school under the LEA’s jurisdiction can be addressed.

Triennial Assessment

St. Roberts School values the overall wellbeing of our students. We strive to support our students by providing them with a safe and nurturing environment to support their success in school.

The school’s Wellness Policy guides nutrition, social and emotional health, physical activity, and healthy living. Research indicates that students who try to live each day as healthy individuals are better learners. Therefore, the school will provide the knowledge and skills necessary to help students make healthy food and activity choices for their present and future lives.

During the 2023-2024 school year, the school assessed its wellness policy and made revisions to bring it into compliance. The revised Wellness Policy is linked to the school’s website under Health.

In addition to this, a Wellness Committee was formed and will meet quarterly. The committee consists of the principal, assistant principal, cafeteria manager, PE teacher, counselor, parent representative, and student council representatives. This group will discuss current wellness processes, brainstorm ideas to improve student and staff wellness experiences, and set goals.
